EPIC Award Nomination

Jestaminute Community Theatre CIC have been nominated for a highly-coveted EPIC award run by Voluntary Arts, an organisation working across the UK and Republic of Ireland to promote participation in creative cultural activities. The community interest company, based in Redditch in Worcestershire, have been shortlisted for an award including The People’s Choice following their work with Winyates-based Redditch East Aspiring Communities CIC (REACH) on the pantomime – ‘The Needlewitch is Coming’. Celebrating the rich local heritage in needle-making, the production cleverly combines story elements from a host of children’s classics including Little Red Riding Hood and Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

Bringing together individuals from all ages and backgrounds, the production was developed by people from the local area ranging from 5-75 years old, making it a truly community-oriented event. Helped by Jestaminute’s expert team of creatives, the group combined their talents to develop the play from concept through to delivery, demonstrating skills in multiple areas including scripting, performing, staging and production management.
The pantomime has played an integral role in fostering relations across the community, drawing help from multiple groups. Volunteers from the local Men in Sheds helped the team build scenery and props, whilst local school Ipsley RSA Academy played host for two public performances. Pupils gained invaluable experience managing the light and sound for both the final rehearsals and performances.

Stuart Sanderson, the Arts Development Officer at Redditch Borough Council, has also lent his support, saying “We’re delighted by the good news that Jestaminute have been shortlisted for an Epic Award. Working closely with the company in Redditch, we know how important they are to communities here and it’s great to see their commitment to the voluntary and community arts sectors recognised in this way.”

The company is appealing for the people of Redditch to get behind them in their bid to win the award; the winner is determined by members of the public who vote for the shortlisted group or project they feel most deserving of recognition at the ceremony. Voting for this year’s People’s Choice Award closes on Sunday 20th September 2020.
